DM is a designer, systems architect, and creative leader with more than two decades of experience shaping brand, identity, and visual systems across advertising, publishing, environments, motion, and digital platforms. He has worked with global brands including Nike, Adidas, Coca-Cola, Verizon, Fujifilm, Christie’s, Rizzoli, Kraft Foods, Godiva, and MGM Resorts, with work recognized by D&AD, Cannes Lions, The One Club, and AIGA.
Beginning his career at Duffy and Fallon, DM built a foundation in problem-solving through clear ideas expressed with storytelling and craft. His path led to collaborations with teams at Droga5, BBH, Chiat Day, BBDO, Mother, JWT, Havas, SS+K, and McCann, where his role expanded from designer to system-builder and team leader — helping grow creative departments and cultivate cultures rooted in collaboration, trust, and shared ownership.
Today he works independently, bringing the perspective gained inside large creative organizations to projects of all scales. His focus is less on authorship and more on alignment: helping teams solve problems by thinking together, clarifying intent, and building design systems that puts the solution first.
Along the way, he realized he had been “in service” to outcomes he didn’t truly believe in. That recognition became a turning point.
From the combined experiences of his professional and personal life, DM formed a guiding philosophy called ofservice… not a studio or a place, but a way of thinking and behaving that grounds collaboration in pain point problem solving, curiosity, craft, and collective action.
DM lives in Austin, Texas with his two cats, Dieter Hams and Mr. Stairs.

In order to be ofservice I realized I didn’t need a methodology, I needed disciplined principles. They are as follows:
WILLINGNESS
Willingness is the act of stepping forward before certainty arrives.
It’s the courage to engage without control, to enter the work without needing to force it.In ofservice, willingness means:
Letting the problem speak before solving it
Meeting the problem where it is, not where you want it to be
Releasing attachment to outcome in favor of presence in process
It’s the posture of service.
Not “what can I make?” but “what is needed?”Willingness is where all good work begins.
HONESTY
Honesty is the discipline of seeing clearly and saying it clean.
In ofservice, honesty means:
Naming what is true, even when it disrupts comfort
Stripping away excess to reveal essence
Designing from reality, not aspiration alone
It’s not severity. It’s clarity with care.
Because without honesty, there is no trust.
And without trust, there is no meaningful work.Honesty is what reveals.
OPEN-MINDEDNESS
Open-mindedness is the refusal to arrive too early.
It’s the ability to stay in curiosity longer than is comfortable. In ofservice, open-mindedness means:
Listening as a context, not a tactic
Letting new information reshape direction
Allowing unexpected answers to emerge
It creates room for collaboration, for discovery, for something better than what you walked in with.
Open-mindedness is how the work lives
